Indonesian home decor products captivated attendees at the Interior Lifestyle Tokyo 2024 exhibition, held from June 12 to 14, 2023, at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan. The exhibition resulted in potential transactions worth IDR 13.6 billion for Indonesian products. Merry Maryati, Director of Export Development for Services and Creative Products, expressed hope that Indonesia’s participation in Interior Lifestyle Tokyo 2024 would introduce superior Indonesian design-based products capable of competing in global markets. The exhibition provides opportunities for Indonesian design-based products to penetrate the Japanese and global markets. Interior Lifestyle Tokyo 2024 is an annual international business-to-business (B2B) exhibition organized by Messe Frankfurt. It features creative products related to home and lifestyle, including designed gift items, fashion, tableware, food, luxury and exclusive furniture, and interior decoration. The products emphasize environmentally friendly manufacturing, upcycling, and fair trade.
The Indonesian Pavilion was located in the Home zone, featuring five curated businesses, including winners of the Good Design Indonesia (GDI) and Good Design Awards 2023, and participants of the Designer Dispatch Service (DDS) program. Products displayed included decorative baskets, multipurpose containers, wall hangings, lamps, and small furniture. The GDI event is an award platform for Indonesian products affiliated with Japan's Good Design Award. The Indonesian Pavilion’s presence at Interior Lifestyle Tokyo 2024 was a collaboration between the Ministry of Trade through the Directorate General of National Export Development, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Trade Attaché in Tokyo, and the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) in Osaka. Tokyo Trade Attaché Merry Indriasari stated that participating in Interior Lifestyle Tokyo 2024 would push Indonesian products to achieve high standards of quality and design. Indonesian home decor product exports to Japan have grown by 3.65% over the past five years (2019-2023). In 2023, exports to Japan reached USD 38.94 million. Globally, Indonesian home decor exports have increased by 11.19% over the same period. From January to March 2024, global exports reached USD 59.43 million, up 10% from USD 54.06 million in 2023.
