PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) is making continuous efforts to maximize the potential of the Islamic economy in Indonesia, which is supported by its large Muslim population. In the future, Indonesia is expected to become the global center for the Islamic industry. “With more than 270 million people, 85% of whom are Muslim, we have a significant potential for an Islamic economy. Unfortunately, we are not yet a major player, lagging behind Malaysia and Saudi Arabia,” said BSI President Director Hery Gunardi at Sentosa Senayan, Friday (June 14). As the largest Islamic bank in Indonesia, BSI is committed to driving the country to build the capacity and capability of the halal industry. “The potential value chain of the halal industry in Indonesia currently almost reaches IDR 5,000 trillion, indicating a substantial potential in the halal economy,” he added.
Moreover, BSI aims to support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which are a pillar of national economic growth. MSMEs contribute 60.5% to the national GDP. “We need to build the capacity and capability of this halal industry so that we become not just users or consumers but also producers,” he stated. PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) is set to host the BSI International Expo 2024 from Thursday (June 20) to Sunday (June 23) at JCC Senayan, Jakarta. The event will feature over 270 tenants from domestic and international halal businesses and potential buyers from 20 countries. “We aim for transactions or fund turnover of around IDR 1 trillion during the event,” he explained. Hery estimates the event will attract around 5,000 visitors per day, with a total of 20,000 to 25,000 visitors over the four days. The Expo, themed "Connecting You to Halal Lifestyle Ecosystem," is a manifestation of BSI’s commitment to strengthening the national halal ecosystem and making Indonesia a center for the Islamic economy.
