Promoting the right to education in emergency and prolonged crisis contexts through an initial investment of at least EUR 15 million into the United Nations’ global fund, Education Cannot Wait, is the appeal made by Emanuele Russo, spokesperson for the Global Campaign for Education, to the Italian government. This call for commitment over the next four years aims to support the world’s most at-risk children and youth, as highlighted at the 'Flowing Futures' event organized by WeWorld and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (Aics).
“The Italian government has long been in dialogue to focus the country's attention on war and prolonged crisis contexts, where education often falls to the bottom of priorities,” stated Russo. He added, "Italy made an important declaration when it committed for the first time to funding Education Cannot Wait. However, as civil society and as the global campaign for education, we are asking for a more consistent commitment.”
