Bali's Economy Surpasses National Growth, BI Commends Mahendra Jaya

Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), Doni Primanto Joewono, praised Bali's Acting Governor, Made Mahendra Jaya, for the region's impressive economic growth. In the first quarter of 2024, Bali's economy grew by 5.98%, surpassing the national growth rate of 5.11 % and improving from 5.86% in the same period in 2023. "Three years ago, when I visited here, Bali's economic growth was negative. Today, the Acting Governor proudly announced that growth has reached nearly 6%. That is extraordinary," Doni stated at the Bali Jagadhita event in Sanur, Denpasar, on Monday, 10 June 2024. He noted that Bali's economy was previously heavily reliant on tourism, which suffered significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the Bali Jagadhita initiative, the Bali provincial government aims to diversify its economy beyond tourism. Mahendra expressed gratitude for Bali's economic achievements, attributing the success to the collaboration of all stakeholders. He highlighted the rise in investments and the increase in tourist arrivals as key factors driving economic growth.

Mahendra reported that tourism remains the primary contributor to Bali's economy, with the growth rate reaching 5.71% in 2023, surpassing the pre-pandemic level of 5.6% in 2019. The provincial government is focused on maintaining Bali's status as a competitive global tourism destination by improving services, ensuring food security, and enhancing safety and infrastructure. Recognizing the need for substantial investment to support economic and tourism development, Mahendra emphasized the importance of maintaining Bali's cultural heritage and environmental sustainability amid development. He outlined several investment opportunities in Bali, including the Bali Cultural Center, Bali Urban Rail, and Turyapada Tower, which are poised to attract investors. Mahendra concluded by highlighting the advantages and readiness of these investment opportunities, encouraging potential investors to explore and contribute to Bali's growth.
