Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, emphasized the need for more investment in sustainable tourism in Indonesia at the International Tourism Investment Forum (ITIF) 2024, held at Swissôtel PIK Avenue, Jakarta, from June 5 to 6, 2024. He stated that Indonesia requires over USD 15 to 20 billion to support sustainable tourism, responding to the growing market demand for eco-friendly tourism practices. Sandiaga highlighted the need for green hotels and environmentally friendly tourism practices, noting that last year's USD 3 billion investment in tourism was predominantly in conventional hotels. He aims to shift focus towards greener, regenerative tourism, which emphasizes environmental and local community recovery and regeneration. The goal is to create destinations that are better than their initial state, generating a positive rather than negative impact, with support from all stakeholders. He expressed hope that ITIF 2024 would attract more investments in sustainable tourism.
Sandiaga also mentioned that Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 is included in the National Strategic Projects (PSN) for 2024, positioning it as a significant tourist destination capable of generating new jobs and boosting the economy. He indicated that, besides Bali, PIK will offer attractive tourism destinations and that more hospitals will be built in PIK to support health tourism in Indonesia. This initiative aims to provide adequate healthcare facilities for Indonesians, as Deputy Minister of Health reported that IDR 167 trillion is spent by Indonesians on healthcare services abroad. Accompanying Sandiaga at the event was Deputy of Industry and Investment at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Rizki Handayani Mustafa.
