Indonesia Enhances Technology Transfer to Boost Innovation and Economy

Indonesia is currently optimizing the principles of technology and knowledge transfer in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) governance. Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi stated that this effort aims to drive national innovation and economic growth. He emphasized the importance of governance based on technology transfer and knowledge transfer principles. "Involving Indonesia and other developing countries as AI developers in the global AI supply chain is essential," Budi Arie said during his keynote speech at the Google AI for Indonesia Emas event in Central Jakarta, as quoted on Tuesday, 4 June. According to Minister Budi Arie, these principles will enable all citizens to benefit from AI technology. AI governance in Indonesia has been a focus recently due to its potential to successfully drive the national digital transformation program. Budi Arie explained that technology transfer ensures that AI technology is accessible and affordable for Indonesia and other developing countries. Knowledge transfer ensures that the understanding of production processes, policymaking, and the utilization of technology is shared broadly.

The development of AI must consider three main aspects: people, policy, and platform. According to Budi Arie, "people" highlights the importance of skilled human resources for empowerment and societal advancement. "Policy" refers to regulations that ensure a safe and productive ecosystem. The creation of platforms encourages collaboration among stakeholders to foster an inclusive AI ecosystem. "Empowering society through AI usage is supported by AI policies that ensure a safe and productive ecosystem," he added. In summary, Indonesia's strategy involves ensuring that AI technology and knowledge are accessible and beneficial to all citizens, which is critical for the country's innovation and economic growth. The focus on people, policy, and platforms is aimed at creating a comprehensive and inclusive AI ecosystem.
