The Head of the Marine and Fisheries Service of Central Kalimantan Province, Darliansjah, has set a target for the region's vannamei shrimp to become a leading national export commodity. "We hope that the BERKAH Shrimp Estate will motivate the people of Central Kalimantan to develop vannamei shrimp as a superior product for the region and a top national export commodity," he stated on Monday, 3 June 2024. Darliansjah explained that the development of the shrimp farm cluster is an initiative of Governor Sugianto Sabran, who identified significant potential in the coastal marine and fisheries sector. The Central Kalimantan Provincial Government has distributed over 11 million shrimp larvae in the BERKAH Shrimp Estate, centered in Sei Raja Village, Jelai District, Sukamara Regency. This initiative has been successful, with a projected production of 368 tons per cycle (105 days), equivalent to IDR 29.4 billion, with a break-even point of 2 years and 7 months. "The establishment and development of this shrimp farming area are seen as a significant economic booster for the coastal region. Today, we are conducting a marketing partnership visit for vannamei shrimp with PT Perikanan Indonesia in Jakarta," he added. The shrimp estate project aims to enhance the local economy by leveraging the natural coastal resources. The initiative aligns with the broader goal of positioning Central Kalimantan as a pivotal player in the national seafood export market. By fostering partnerships and ensuring high-quality production, the region is poised to contribute significantly to Indonesia's export portfolio.
