Game Industry Holds Significant Potential to Boost Economic Growth

Dr. Ir. Kiki Yuliati, M.Sc., Director General of Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, highlighted the substantial potential of the game industry and the rising public interest in it. She noted that this interest could stimulate Indonesia's economic growth, previously dependent on significant fiscal spending to support the game sector. “The economic potential in the game industry is substantial. We have been importing, which means a significant outflow of our fiscal resources. Therefore, we aim to strengthen the domestic game industry so that economic growth benefits all Indonesians,” she stated, as reported by RRI on Monday (3/6/24). At the Signing of Cooperation Agreement (PKS) event at the Kemendikbudristek Building A, she announced the ministry’s initiative to integrate vocational education units with the game industry. This includes partnerships with PT Gamecomm Indonesia Network and 41 Vocational High Schools (SMK).

Acting Director of Partnerships and Alignment of Business and Industry (DUDI), Uuf Brajawidagda, explained that the collaboration covers eight key aspects: industry-based curriculum alignment, competency enhancement for educators, educational staff, and students, guest educators from DUDI in vocational units, development and utilization of facilities and infrastructure, competency certification, fieldwork practices and internships, recruitment of vocational graduates, and scholarship provision. Uuf detailed that the selection of schools was based on their readiness for collaboration. He expressed hope that this partnership would expand both quantitatively and qualitatively in the future. “There were initially 125 SMKs. Then, Gamecomm Indonesia selected the SMKs signing the agreement today,” he clarified. Meanwhile, CEO of PT Gamecomm Indonesia Networks, Sere Kalina Florencia, acknowledged the difficulty in finding suitable human resources in the Indonesian game industry. She expressed gratitude for the collaboration opportunity. The partnership involves 41 SMKs located in Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor, and Tangerang, specializing in Multimedia, Software Engineering, and Visual Communication Design.
