Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, stated that the 19th Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Asia Pacific Forum 2024 provides opportunities for funding cooperation in the development of intelligent transport systems. “The exhibition at the Asia Pacific Intelligent Transport System Forum offers more than just selling services or products; it also provides financing options,” said the Minister at the opening of the forum in Jakarta. Held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), the forum allows regions across Indonesia to seek funding collaborations for modern transport system development. “Cities unable to develop systems independently can collaborate with various parties to achieve connectivity solutions,” Budi added. He encouraged regions to partner with organizations like the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and European Investment Bank to develop smart transport systems. “This forum is crucial, it’s not just about technology but also collaboration and funding. Jakarta has started, albeit a bit late, but many Indonesian cities need ITS support for smart transport infrastructure,” Budi noted.
Arsjad Rasjid, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), emphasized the forum's potential to attract investors for developing smart transportation in Indonesia. “Investors are very excited, especially about building a health-conscious and environmentally-friendly transportation system,” Arsjad said. He highlighted significant investor interest in supporting green, intelligent transport systems in Indonesia. Arsjad mentioned that many investors from various countries are keen to participate, though he did not specify which countries. He expressed optimism that not only Asian countries but also others are interested in investing in Indonesia. “Technology in transportation evolves constantly, so adopting sustainable and integrative technologies is essential,” he explained, emphasizing the need for careful selection of technologies like artificial intelligence. He noted that developed countries have extensively implemented intelligent transport systems, and Indonesia must prepare thoroughly. “Legal frameworks are in place; now we must prepare our society, as habits will need to change, and violations must be addressed with sanctions,” he concluded. The forum, held from 28 to 30 May 2024, offers a platform for collaboration and investment in Indonesia’s evolving transport infrastructure.
