PT Perikanan Indonesia (Persero) has initiated its first octopus export to Vietnam, marking a significant step in expanding its international market reach in 2024. According to PT Perikanan Indonesia's President Director, Sigit Muhartono, this endeavor aligns with the company's commitment to exploring new market niches globally. Traditionally, the company has been exporting its fishery products to Japan, the United States, South Korea, Thailand, China, the Philippines, and Singapore. This export to Vietnam follows the "Meet Indonesia" event in Vietnam, where the President Director participated. The event aimed to strengthen Indonesia-Vietnam cooperation in developing regional supply chains and producing high-value products, especially in the fisheries sector.
Sigit expressed PT Perikanan Indonesia's readiness to become a key player in the fisheries business between Indonesia and Vietnam through this inaugural octopus export. Additionally, from January to May 2024, PT Perikanan Indonesia supplied octopus to both Vietnam and Japan, totaling 75.3 tons. The octopus, specifically the Octopus Cyanea Grey variety, is sourced from the Simeulue branch in Aceh. This branch has been a regular supplier to Japan since 2021 and began exporting to Vietnam in 2024. PT Perikanan Indonesia collaborates with local fishermen in Simeulue who practice "One Day Fishing," ensuring high-quality octopus. Besides octopus, PT Perikanan Indonesia also exports Loin Tuna to Singapore, produced by its Bitung branch in North Sulawesi. The Loin Tuna, which undergoes a thorough process including freezing, washing, head and skin removal, is exported to Kida Food Trading, a Singaporean food company.
