Indonesia is set to become a key player in the global ornamental fish industry, both as a leading exporter and as the host of a thriving domestic ecosystem. This ambition was shared by Budi Sulistiyo, Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fisheries Products at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), during a press conference for "NUSATIC-NUSAPET 2024," scheduled for June 7-9, 2024, at ICE BSD City. Sugiarto, Chairman of NUSATIC (Nusantara Aquatic) and NUSAPET (Nusantara Pet), stated that NUSATIC-NUSAPET is the world's largest international ornamental fish exhibition and contest, also featuring other pets. The event, which began in 2016, aims to boost interest in preserving and diversifying ornamental fish and pets while expanding domestic and international market reach. This enhances Indonesia's position as a leading producer of ornamental fish. NUSATIC supports the government's initiatives, particularly KKP's National Action Plan for Ornamental Fish, as outlined in Presidential Regulation No. 34 of 2022. This plan aims to establish Indonesia as a top ornamental fish industry and the largest exporter globally.

Since its inception, NUSATIC has featured over 16,000 ornamental fish. The debut of NUSAPET this year is expected to attract more pet enthusiasts. Event chairman Djohan Tjiptadi stated that this year's NUSATIC aims to showcase 20,000 ornamental fish and attract 30,000 visitors. NUSATIC is also a valuable resource for information on the ornamental fish market. Djohan highlighted the business opportunities NUSATIC offers to ornamental fish entrepreneurs, supported by Indonesia's growing export values. In 2020, Indonesia's ornamental fish exports were USD 30.76 million (IDR 447.78 billion), rising to USD 34.55 million (IDR 494.47 billion) in 2021, and USD 36.43 million (IDR 542.91 billion) in 2022. This growth has positioned Indonesia as the world's second-largest ornamental fish exporter, surpassing Singapore and the Netherlands, with Japan remaining the top exporter.
