The Indonesian government is optimistic that the country's membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will boost GDP growth by 1%. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, conveyed this during a press conference at the Workshop on Indonesia's Accession Process into the OECD on Wednesday, 29 May 2025. “A GDP increase of around 1% means benefits for businesses, workers, and MSMEs, enhancing national economic resilience and job creation,” he stated. Airlangga believes that joining the OECD will bolster business confidence and global competitiveness.
In addition to GDP growth, Indonesia’s OECD membership is expected to attract investments from member countries, potentially increasing by 0.37%. “This will benefit businesses, workers, and MSMEs nationwide, supporting resilience and job creation,” Airlangga explained. He added that OECD accession is crucial for achieving the Indonesia Emas 2045 vision, which aims for inclusive and sustainable national economic growth, helping Indonesia escape the middle-income trap and transition to a high-income country. “OECD accession is vital for guiding Indonesia out of the middle-income trap and into the ranks of developed nations by 2045,” he emphasized. The government aims to complete Indonesia's OECD membership process within the next three years.
