Indonesia's tourism performance index rose to 22nd place in 2023, up from 32nd place previously. This increase in the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) was officially released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) on May 21, 2024. In its release, the WEF stated that Indonesia's tourism index position increased by 10 places, moving from 32nd to 22nd in the world. Responding to this, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno remarked that Indonesia has surpassed Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam in terms of tourism competitiveness. Sandiaga noted that Indonesia achieved a 4.46% increase in ranking, climbing from 32nd to 22nd position. "Therefore, we should never feel inferior to other countries regarding Indonesian tourism, as we are now in the top 22 globally. Out of 119 countries, we are already in the upper tier," said Menparekraf Sandiaga in a written statement in Jakarta, as quoted from Info Publik on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
The data indicates that Indonesia's tourism sector has successfully risen and recovered by using the budget effectively and efficiently. This demonstrates that the programs and policies launched by Kemenparekraf are targeted, beneficial, and timely, having a direct impact on the tourism and creative economy sectors, thereby creating jobs and promoting economic recovery. "Even with an efficient budget, we can innovate, adapt, and collaborate. I hope we can continue to foster the spirit of adaptation, innovation, and collaboration," explained Menparekraf Sandiaga. Menparekraf also expressed hope that this achievement would continue under future leadership. "This is a relay that we will pass on to the new minister. The leap we made was extraordinary, and hopefully, we can continue to improve our ranking," he concluded.
