Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi outlined plans for the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) to become a pioneer in smart transportation, particularly focusing on electric vehicles (EVs). He emphasized that IKN aims to be a model city with an EV concept, gradually implementing smart transportation concepts. The plan includes transitioning all vehicles to EVs for both city and intercity travel. The government, in collaboration with the private sector, is preparing various EV facilities for the community, including commercial and leasing options. Budi highlighted the importance of government-private sector collaboration to swiftly realize IKN's vision as a smart transportation pioneer in Indonesia.

Additionally, the Ministry of Transportation is set to conduct EV trials in IKN starting August 2024. These trials will pave the way for the gradual expansion of EV facilities and services in IKN. Alongside EV initiatives, trials for the Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) project, a rail system without tracks, are also scheduled for August 2024 in IKN. Minister Budi clarified that the ART project is not funded by the state budget and emphasized the importance of successful implementation aligned with President Joko Widodo's directives. Moreover, he urged all cities in Indonesia to enhance their infrastructure to become smart transportation hubs. President of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Indonesia, William Sabandar, highlighted that 80% of public transportation in IKN will be electric, aligning with the city's goal of becoming a net-zero emission and ten-minute city, accessible within a 10-minute radius. He emphasized ITS Indonesia's role in realizing IKN's vision as a global hub for intelligent transportation systems.
