Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemlu RI) have agreed to strengthen their collaboration in international economic diplomacy. This partnership aims to enhance institutional coordination and synergy in managing international relations to advance Indonesia's interests on a global scale. The agreement was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by BI Governor Perry Warjiyo and Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi, effective until May 15, 2029. The cooperation focuses on three main aspects. Firstly, it aims to manage positive perceptions of Indonesia and jointly promote investment and trade to support the national economy and improve understanding of Indonesian policies. Erwin Haryono, Head of the BI Communications Department, highlighted that this collaboration will also involve studying Indonesia's positioning and managing international relations to support and enhance Indonesia's role at bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels.
The third aspect focuses on supporting national economic interests internationally, including promoting the use of local currencies in transactions, expanding payment system connectivity, and developing the Islamic economy and finance sector. BI Governor Perry Warjiyo emphasized that the MoU reflects the coordinated efforts of both institutions to strengthen Indonesia's role and position internationally. Erwin Haryono concluded that this enhanced economic diplomacy will more effectively support national interests and foster a positive perception of Indonesia's economy on the global stage.
