In March 2024, exports through ports in Central Kalimantan were predominantly industrial products, totaling USD 58.27 million or 90.36% of the region's port exports. According to Eko Marsoro, Head of the Central Kalimantan Statistics Agency (BPS), these industrial exports included animal/vegetable fats and oils, specifically palm oil; wood and wood products like plywood and processed wood; various chemical products derived from agricultural sources; and food industry residues such as oilcake and residues. Eko also noted that mining commodity exports through Central Kalimantan ports comprised 5.58% of the total port exports in the region, amounting to USD 3.60 million in March 2024, primarily consisting of mineral fuels like coal. Most of the mining commodity exports were conducted through ports outside Central Kalimantan.
In contrast, agricultural product exports from Central Kalimantan were largely processed through local ports. During March 2024, these exports were facilitated through Kumai Port and Tjilik Riwut Airport, with a total value of USD 2.62 million. The agricultural products included non-timber forest products for handicrafts, cultivated live fish, and horticultural plants like live trees and cut flowers. These statistics highlight the significant role of industrial exports in Central Kalimantan's economy, with notable contributions from the mining and agricultural sectors, albeit through different logistical channels.
