Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy: Indonesia's Tourism Index Ranks 22nd in the World

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, announced that Indonesia's Travel Tourism Development Index (TTDI) now ranks 22nd globally. In a weekly press conference held online from Jakarta on Monday, Sandiaga highlighted that Indonesia has surpassed countries such as Belgium, New Zealand, and Turkey in this ranking. This biennial assessment by the World Economic Forum (WEF) has exceeded the set target of reaching the 29th position. Sandiaga attributed this achievement to the government's strategic programs that prioritize tourism, including the development of destinations and the provision of holidays, which have enabled Indonesia to surpass Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines in the index. He explained that the WEF's assessment considers factors such as effective government policies for the tourism sector, social impact, sustainability, natural beauty, and cultural heritage.

Despite this accomplishment, Sandiaga urged his team not to become complacent, as there are significant challenges that still need to be addressed to further improve Indonesia's ranking. These challenges include enhancing destination infrastructure, health and hygiene standards, and the availability of information and communication networks. He specifically mentioned the need for digital services in areas like Likupang, suggesting that solutions like Starlink might be necessary. Sandiaga also emphasized the importance of improving services for tourists to make Indonesia a more open and welcoming destination. This can be achieved by enhancing the quality of human resources and developing necessary infrastructure. He expressed his hope that future administrations will continue to advance Indonesia's TTDI ranking.
