East Java Coffee Festival Boosts Creative Economy in Surabaya

Fahmi Adimara, owner of INDISCHE 1931 Coffee Roastery, is driving the growth of the creative economy in East Java and Indonesia by collaborating with Bank Jatim and local communities to host the East Java Coffee Festival. Held at the Atrium Grand City Mall Surabaya from 23 to 26 May 2024, this festival goes beyond a mere coffee exhibition. It features a range of engaging activities, including talk shows, workshops, and coffee competitions. The festival’s talk shows will bring together various stakeholders from the coffee industry, such as Ali Affandi, Chairman of Kadin Surabaya; Olga Bimaska, Raka Jawa Timur; coffee farmer Pak Suprapto; and Haris, head of the Skena Motor Manasi Ride community. Moderated by Raditya Erlangga and Alvan Yogi, these sessions will cover topics like business opportunities in the coffee industry, challenges faced by coffee farmers, and the role of communities in advancing the coffee sector. For coffee enthusiasts looking to hone their skills, the festival offers workshops on mixology, latte art, and manual brewing, where participants can learn from professional baristas. Additionally, the festival hosts competitions in these categories, with attractive prizes for the winners.

The East Java Coffee Festival also showcases various coffee products and lifestyle adventure items. Visitors can enjoy different coffee varieties from across East Java and shop for interesting lifestyle adventure products. Fahmi expressed his vision for the festival: "I want the East Java Coffee Festival to be a gathering place for coffee lovers in East Java and Indonesia to enjoy high-quality coffee from various regions. I also hope this inaugural festival helps boost the creative economy by providing a platform for SMEs in coffee and lifestyle adventure to market their products." Bank Jatim, one of the festival's main sponsors, welcomes Fahmi’s initiative. The festival also enjoys support from several coffee and lifestyle adventure communities in East Java, who are involved in various festival activities, including talk shows, workshops, and musical performances. Mas Gio, representing one such community and running a coffee tenant named Pulang St., said, "We are excited to participate in the East Java Coffee Festival and contribute to the advancement of the coffee and lifestyle adventure industries in East Java and Indonesia."
