Indonesia's Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Mochamad Fadjroel Rachman, announced that three major construction companies from Kazakhstan are poised to participate in developing the new capital city, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN). The companies, BI Group, Asia Construction, and K7, are currently undergoing the necessary licensing processes both in Kazakhstan and Indonesia. "BI Group is the largest construction company in Kazakhstan, responsible for building the capital city, Astana. It ranks as the third-largest in Eurasia and the top in Central Asia," said Fadjroel Rachman during a press conference with the IKN Authority in Jakarta on Monday, 27 May 2024. BI Group is a private multinational construction company from Kazakhstan, renowned for its significant projects across Central Asia, including the construction of Astana, the modern capital of Kazakhstan, established in 1997.
The involvement of these foreign contractors is expected to facilitate other foreign investment projects in IKN, especially in the city's development post-completion of the Central Government Core Area. "They will assist foreign investors, and we are offering the initial construction phase in areas designated for the private sector," Fadjroel added. Agung Wicaksono, Deputy for Funding and Investment at the IKN Authority, also accompanied the BI Group delegation during their visit to IKN. He remarked that the entry of these major Kazakh contractors signifies a growing interest from international private sector investors. "This is the second visit by a Kazakh investor delegation to IKN facilitated by Ambassador Fadjroel Rachman. Hopefully, this indicates an increasing investor interest in IKN following a peaceful election, which ensures stability, a prerequisite for investment," Agung concluded.
