Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki highlighted that despite various domestic and global economic challenges, Indonesia's furniture industry has shown a strong performance. Over the past five years (2018-2022), furniture export values have increased consistently, reaching USD 2.9 billion (approximately IDR 46.4 trillion) in 2022, up from USD 2.8 billion (approximately IDR 44.8 trillion) the previous year. "This increase indicates positive momentum and optimism in achieving the government's furniture industry export target of USD 5 billion (approximately IDR 80 trillion) by 2024," he stated during a press conference for the Furniture Industry Gathering IFFINA 2024, which is scheduled for mid-September. However, Teten noted that the Indonesian furniture industry faces several challenges, including raw material availability, the need for design innovation, and human resource skill enhancement. He mentioned that the government continues to strive to enhance the industry's competitiveness and achieve the set export targets by creating a conducive business ecosystem.
Efforts include providing integrated market intelligence and a single access point for export aggregators, offering financing, and developing the Indonesia Trading House to expand export marketing networks and position Indonesia as a global trade hub. Wisnu W. Pettalolo, Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) for Associations and Organizations, stated that Kadin, as a strategic government partner, supports efforts to achieve furniture export targets through the utilization of domestic products to enhance the competitiveness of local products while promoting national economic growth. Kadin Indonesia welcomes the upcoming IFFINA 2024 Furniture and Design Exhibition, which is expected to foster closer partnerships between Indonesian furniture businesses and international partners. Organized by the Indonesian Furniture and Craft Industry Association (ASMINDO), the exhibition will take place from September 14-17, 2024, at ICE BSD City, Tangerang Banten.
