The Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Agency (BKHIT) of North Maluku (Malut) has partnered with the local Police Department (Polda) to oversee and secure the fisheries sector, particularly focusing on increasing lobster production to support the local economy. Willy Indra Yunan, the head of BKHIT Malut, expressed support for the Police Chief’s program to boost the supply of local fishery and lobster farming products. He emphasized BKHIT's commitment to coordinating with various parties to monitor the needs of local fishery products and maintain the quality of agricultural and livestock products entering and leaving Malut. Effective coordination between Polda Malut and the Quarantine Agency is expected to address challenges in the agricultural and livestock sectors and maximize regional potential for the community's welfare. Willy appreciated the support and attention from the Police Chief towards these sectors and expressed readiness to collaborate more closely in developing regional potential.
North Maluku Police Chief, Irjen Pol Midi Siswoko, highlighted the importance of coordination and collaboration with BKHIT in supervising the fisheries sector. He pointed out key issues and challenges faced by the agricultural and livestock sectors in Malut, noting that local fruit production meets only 8% of total demand, with the remainder needing to be imported. The Police Chief also mentioned that Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) requires a large supply of meat, presenting a significant opportunity for Malut if it can provide the needed stock. To reduce inflation in Malut, he proposed enhancing the province’s ability to supply meat locally and developing lobster farming with seeds sourced from Banyuwangi as a flagship program.
