President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has invited members of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to invest in Indonesia's new capital (Ibukota Nusantara/IKN) in East Kalimantan. This invitation was extended during a meeting with ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa on the sidelines of the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali. Jokowi encouraged ADB members to increase their investments in Indonesia, particularly in the development of the new capital. "I invite other ADB members to invest in Indonesia, including in the development of the new capital Nusantara," Jokowi stated in his official remarks on Tuesday, 21 May 2024.
Jokowi also reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to supporting and contributing to the replenishment of the Asian Development Fund (ADF) 14, which has a positive impact on the Asia-Pacific region. "Indonesia will play a larger role in the future leadership structure of the ADB," Jokowi asserted. ADB President Asakawa responded positively to Indonesia's proposals and expressed continued support for collaborative efforts to address regional challenges, including energy transition and sustainable infrastructure development.
