The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) revealed that Indonesia exported 2,367 tons of precious metal jewelry and gems worth USD 3.2 billion during January-April 2024. "Aligned with the increase in gold prices in the international market in early 2024 and the strengthening of the US dollar, Indonesia's export volume of precious metal jewelry and gems experienced an upward trend," said Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Pudji Ismartini, in a press conference on Wednesday, May 15. Pudji explained that the export volume of precious metal jewelry and gems in January was 208 tons, February 330 tons, March 1,082 tons, and April 747 tons. Whereas, in April 2023, it was only 186 tons.
In terms of value, the export of precious metals and jewelry or gems decreased to USD 894 million compared to March 2024's USD 1.373 billion. Meanwhile, in April 2023, the export value was only USD 523 million. During January-April 2024, Indonesia exported the most to Switzerland, amounting to USD 700 million or 21.37% of Indonesia's total precious metal exports. Furthermore, Indonesia's exports of precious metal jewelry and gems to Hong Kong were USD 492 million or 15.02%, and to India, it was also USD 492 million or 15.01%. Additionally, Indonesia's exports of precious metal jewelry and gems to Japan amounted to USD 458 million or 13.98%, and to other countries, it was USD 1.13 million or 34.62%.
