The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported a 45.85% increase in the export value of nickel and its derivatives, amounting to USD 210.6 million in April 2024, compared to March 2024's USD 459.5 million. Pudji Ismartini, Deputy for Distribution and Services at BPS, stated that among the top ten non-oil and gas export commodities in April 2024, precious metals and jewelry experienced the largest decline, amounting to USD 478.9 million. Conversely, nickel and its derivatives saw the largest increase. Other commodities that experienced a decrease in export value include electrical machinery and parts (-24.65%), vehicles and parts (-19.20%), animal/vegetable fats and oils (-8.38%), footwear (-21.66%), and mineral fuels (-3.57%). Meanwhile, metal ore, slag, and ash decreased by 8.44%, and various chemical products decreased by 9.40%. Iron and steel showed a slight increase of 1.91%.
From January to April 2024, these top ten commodity groups contributed 64.54% to the total non-oil and gas exports, with a 9.92% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. Non-oil and gas exports from Indonesia's manufacturing industry decreased by 1.97% from January to April 2023. Mining and other exports decreased by 17.22%, while exports from agriculture, forestry, and fisheries increased by 6.90%. The largest non-oil and gas exports in April 2024 were to China (USD 4.28 billion), followed by India (USD 1.81 billion) and the United States (USD 1.75 billion), contributing 42.98% collectively. Despite a 12.97% decrease from March 2024, Indonesia's exports in April 2024 reached USD 19.62 billion, marking a 1.72% increase from April 2023. Cumulatively, Indonesia's exports from January to April 2024 amounted to USD 81.92 billion, a 5.12% decrease compared to the same period in 2023, with non-oil and gas exports totaling USD 76.67 billion, down 5.43%.
