The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy hosted the 2024 Health Week for Creative Economy (Pekan Kesehatan Parekraf) at the Ministry's building in Jakarta from May 13 to 16, aiming to promote the potential of medical tourism in Indonesia. Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno stated in Jakarta on Monday that the event, featuring 15 health sector tenants, will become a regular agenda to promote health tourism in the country. Sandiaga expressed hopes for the event to be held every Sunday, coinciding with nearby Car Free Day, utilizing the space as a venue.
Sandiaga highlighted that Indonesia loses an average of IDR 170 trillion annually in the medical sector as people prefer seeking healthcare abroad. However, he emphasized that healthcare services in Indonesia are on par with those in developed countries, with a booming wellness tourism sector complementing the medical tourism potential.
