The Department of Industry and Trade (Disperdagin) of Cirebon Regency reported that the export value for the first quarter of 2024 reached USD 73.06 million. Thread has emerged as a leading export commodity in Cirebon Regency, surpassing rattan, which had dominated exports in previous years. The export value of thread during the first quarter of 2024 amounted to USD 18.83 million, with the highest export performance recorded in March 2024 at USD 7.27 million and the lowest in April at USD 5 million. According to Suherman, an analyst at Disperdagin Cirebon Regency, thread export trends have been steadily increasing, shifting from rattan, which used to hold the highest export value.
Suherman noted that the market for thread from Cirebon Regency extends to six countries: India, Vietnam, Egypt, Taiwan, Bangladesh, and South Korea. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, all sectors of industry in Cirebon Regency have rebounded to drive economic growth, with several companies demonstrating resilience. "We are optimistic that the export value of thread commodities will continue to rise," said Sidik. Meanwhile, Disperdagin Cirebon Regency recorded that the export value of rattan furniture in the first quarter only reached USD 12.27 million, with the best performance recorded at USD 4.52 million.
