The gaming industry has evolved into a significant economic sector, offering vast opportunities in the creative economy. Recognizing this potential, game designers and developers are being encouraged to grow and innovate. A key initiative supporting this growth is the Indonesia Game Developer Exchange (IGDX) Bootcamp 2024, which took place at Primakara University on May 14, 2024. This event, the first of its kind in Bali, saw the participation of hundreds of Primakara University students, who received training from industry experts. Irfan Noor Agdhian, Commitment Officer of the Digital Economy Directorate at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemenkominfo), highlighted that the IGDX Bootcamp is a platform designed to nurture future game developers. The Bootcamp collaborates with 11 universities across Indonesia, including Primakara University, to produce high-quality talent for the gaming industry. According to Agdhian, the IGDX Bootcamp is part of the broader IGDX 2024 series, an annual event organized by Kemenkominfo in partnership with the Indonesian Game Association (AGI). This year’s innovation, the IGDX Bootcamp, aims to equip students with the skills needed to excel in game development.
Putri Anugrah Cahya Dewi, Vice Rector III of Student Affairs & Career Center at Primakara University, emphasized that the gaming industry has become a vital sector within the creative economy. She noted that Indonesia has produced many local games that compete internationally. Primakara University itself houses Pandora Entertainment, a business unit dedicated to game development, which recently launched the game Leak Bali. The IGDX Bootcamp 2024 at Primakara University also featured Orlando Nandito Nehemia, Founder and Chief Commissioner of Miracle Academy and an alumnus of Primakara University, as a key speaker. Nandito, who started Miracle Academy during his vocational school years and continued its development at Primakara University, shared his vision of creating AAA-quality games akin to renowned titles like Mass Effect and Crysis. He pointed out the unique complexity of the gaming industry, which integrates various disciplines such as music, voice-over, physics, and mathematics. In summary, the IGDX Bootcamp 2024 at Primakara University aims to develop future game developers through expert-led training, underscoring the gaming industry's significant growth and its integral role in the creative economy.
