Indonesia Pursues Coffee Trade Opportunities with Australia at MICE 2024

Indonesia aims to foster coffee trade partnerships with Australia at the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE) 2024, led by the Ministry of Trade through the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Sydney and the Trade Attaché in Canberra. This collaboration, in conjunction with Bank Indonesia Beijing, features four prominent Indonesian exhibitors at the event. Since 2012, Indonesia has actively participated in MICE, showcasing its rich coffee heritage. The exhibition, inaugurated on May 12 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), presents a platform for Indonesia to strengthen business ties with Australian coffee entrepreneurs. Ambassador Siswo Pramono underscored the collaboration's significance, highlighting its role in promoting Indonesian coffee excellence and fostering broader business cooperation. The Indonesian Pavilion at MICE 2024 features four leading exhibitors: Aslan Coffee Roaster, Opal Coffee Roaster, PT Ijonesia, and PT Expindo, exhibiting premium roasted beans from various regions, including Aceh, North Sumatra, East Java, and West Java.

Additionally, the Consulate General of Indonesia in Melbourne (KJRI) has brought five exhibitors, presenting coffee from diverse Indonesian regions such as East Nusa Tenggara, West Sumatra, Central Java, Bali, South Sulawesi, and Papua. Notably, the pavilion showcases coffee from Papua through Anhar Coffee, Papua Black Gold Coffee, and Baliem Blue, highlighting Indonesia's coffee diversity. Christophorus Barutu, Head of ITPC Sydney, reported that Indonesian coffee has garnered significant interest from Australian buyers, securing potential transactions worth USD 102,000 (equivalent to IDR 1.63 billion) on the first day of MICE 2024. Alongside coffee products, PT Ijonesia presents innovative seaweed-based drink straws that decompose in the ocean, aligning with global environmental sustainability goals. The event's first day was marked by engaging activities, including barista competitions, coffee roasting demonstrations, and latte art training, attracting visitors to the Indonesian Pavilion for coffee cupping and sampling sessions. The collaboration reflects Indonesia's commitment to expanding its coffee trade footprint and fostering sustainable business partnerships with Australia.
