Indonesia Encourages Increased Exports to Chile

The Indonesian Embassy and the Indonesian Trade and Promotion Center in Santiago collaborated to facilitate a trade delegation from the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia on a Trade Mission to Chile on May 9-10, 2024. The mission aimed to boost Indonesia's exports to Chile through the utilization of the Indonesia-Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IC-CEPA), involving various activities such as business forums, business matching meetings, and company visits. The Indonesia-Chile Business Forum, held at the Intercontinental Santiago Hotel, was attended by Indonesian Ambassador to Chile, Muhammad Anshor, the President of SOFOFA Chile, Directors-General of International Trade Negotiations and National Export Development of the Ministry of Trade, and representatives from nine Indonesian companies. During the event, Ambassador Muhammad Anshor emphasized the significance of Chile as an economic partner, strengthened by the IC-CEPA, which has significantly enhanced bilateral relations. He noted a 113% increase in trade volume between 2019-2022 compared to 2015-2018.

Representatives from the Indonesian Ministry of Trade detailed the cooperation opportunities between Chile and Indonesia, as well as the potential benefits of partnering with Indonesia. Each representative from the nine Indonesian companies also delivered presentations. Following this, the event proceeded with a B2B Business Matching session at the same venue, scheduled to continue until Friday, May 10, 2024. The trade mission delegation also visited several companies in Chile, including Cross Mountain and Cencosud. Chile serves as a vital trading hub in Latin America, with a market potential of 659.3 million people and free trade agreements with 64 countries. Through this trade mission, introducing Indonesian entrepreneurs to relevant counterparts in Chile, the Indonesian government aims to boost exports from Indonesia to Chile. It is expected that businesses in both countries can leverage the IC-CEPA framework for mutual benefit, enhancing economic cooperation and bilateral trade relations.
