KSP Forms Task Force to Accelerate Carbon Trading Implementation

The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) has established a carbon task force to drive the acceleration of decarbonization efforts in Indonesia, particularly in relation to carbon trading. According to a press release received in Jakarta on Sunday, the presence of the carbon task force is expected to address key barriers in the implementation of decarbonization policies, such as funding challenges and inter-agency coordination. Ishak Saing, Chairman of the Carbon Task Force at the Presidential Staff Office, stated during the first seminar of the Indonesia Carbon Care Initiative (ICCI) 2024 themed "Accelerating Indonesia's Decarbonization to Support Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Actions," held jointly by the Presidential Staff Office and the Indonesian Carbon Expert Association (ACEXI) in Jakarta, Sunday. Ishak mentioned that the Presidential Staff Office's carbon task force will facilitate collaboration among stakeholders to enhance public awareness across various levels through climate change campaigns. Additionally, the task force will involve the private sector through financial incentives, public-private partnerships, and supportive regulations for sustainable investments, framed within the ICCI.

Ishak further explained that the ICCI is a collaboration among five key sectors, namely academia, business, government, community, and media, aiming to create sustainable and positively impactful solutions for all involved parties. He emphasized that cross-sector collaboration is crucial in expediting the decarbonization process in Indonesia, a strategic step in addressing global climate change challenges, with a primary focus on carbon trading. The government allocates carbon credits as incentives for industries and other sectors to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Ishak highlighted the importance of Carbon Economic Value (CEV) as part of Indonesia's decarbonization strategy, emphasizing the need to consider the economic value of ecosystem services and carbon emission reductions to guide policymakers in developing sustainable and market-oriented policies. The establishment of a carbon exchange is also pivotal in expanding carbon trading infrastructure, providing a transparent and efficient platform for market participants to buy and sell carbon credits, thereby fostering a dynamic and sustainable carbon ecosystem and incentivizing green technology innovation. Lastyo Lukito, Chairman of the Indonesian Carbon Expert Association (ACEXI), welcomed the establishment of the Presidential Staff Office's carbon task force, considering it a positive step to accelerate decarbonization in Indonesia through comprehensive planning and implementation of carbon trading initiatives.
