Indonesia and China Agree to Increase Investment in the Field of Employment

The Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with the Government of Hunan Province, China, has renewed their cooperation in investment and labor sectors. Discussions were held to develop training programs and enhance the quality of public services relevant to labor practices in both countries, focusing on industry needs. During the meeting between Deputy Minister of Manpower, Afriansyah Noor, and Vice Chairman of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, Zhang Jianfei, in Jakarta, topics included exchanging best practices in information, regulations, methods, and IT-based public service development. Afriansyah emphasized potential cooperation in innovation, technology, technology transfer, and joint research to improve public service quality. Efforts to promote investment and entrepreneurship in job-generating sectors were also discussed, supporting local and foreign companies interested in investing or doing business in both countries.

Indonesia's skilled labor potential across various sectors, including information technology, manufacturing, and services, was highlighted as attractive for industrial and service development investment. Afriansyah stressed the importance of setting labor standards, minimum wages, and social security to protect workers' rights, fostering a stable and sustainable business environment. Last year, discussions on cooperation between Indonesia and China followed up on the previous meeting between Presidents Joko Widodo and Xi Jinping in July 2023 in Chengdu. The cooperation spans investment, trade, infrastructure development, healthcare, and regional or global partnerships, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties. In the investment sector, discussions included plans by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Limited (CATL) to develop integrated EV battery production, petrochemical industry development with Tongkun and Xingfengmin, and the construction of the Xinyi glass factory. Additionally, the discussion addressed the Two Countries Twin Parks initiative, which can serve as a manufacturing investment bridge and strengthen market access for Indonesian and Chinese companies.
