Wakil Menteri Perdagangan Jerry Sambuaga highlighted Indonesia's desire to deepen cooperation in emerging priority areas and operationalize the action plan for 2023-2026 agreed upon during the Indonesia-Brazil bilateral consultation in May 2023. These priority areas include sustainable agriculture, clean energy, digital economy, and the development of the new capital city. During a meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on the sidelines of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Ministerial Meeting in Paris, France, on Friday (3/5), Jerry conveyed Indonesia's commitment to growing the digital economy, aiming to double its value to USD 2 trillion by 2030. Digital economy emerges as a significant priority in Indonesia-Brazil cooperation. Jerry mentioned the potential for Indonesia and Brazil to enhance activities in digital technology and innovation collaboration. As the Chair of ASEAN 2023, Indonesia has also secured an agreement to develop the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) to advance digitization and interoperability.
Beyond economic interests, Indonesia is committed to upholding multilateral trade and investment based on rule-based, fair competition, inclusive, and resilient global partnerships. Jerry emphasized that a strong relationship with Brazil is key to fostering good Indonesia-Brazil economic cooperation. Indonesia aims to strengthen the global architecture that serves developing countries effectively. As the largest economy in Southeast Asia with a robust economic performance despite global challenges, Indonesia seeks to collaborate closely with Brazil. Jerry also expressed support for Brazil's G20 Presidency this year, while Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira expressed support for Indonesia's accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
