Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) Provinsi Kepulauan Bangka Belitung (Babel) reported a significant increase in the export value of tin and non-tin commodities from the region in April 2024. Tin and non-tin exports reached USD 127.99 million, marking a remarkable surge of 582.26% compared to the previous month's USD 18.76 million. Toto Haryanto Silitonga, the Head of BPS in Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province, attributed the surge in March's exports to the USD 86.77 million tin exports, a commodity that was absent from the previous month's export data. In March 2024, non-tin exports amounted to USD 41.22 million, representing a 119.73% increase compared to the previous month's USD 18.76 million.
Tin exports in March were diversified across five destination countries, a stark contrast to the previous two months when there were no tin exports. The majority of tin exports from Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province are directed towards Asian countries, with South Korea remaining the primary destination, receiving 19.21% of the total tin exports from January to March 2024. India and Singapore follow closely, accounting for 16.85% and 16.63% of tin exports, respectively. Japan and the Netherlands are also significant recipients of tin exports from the region. These top five export destinations collectively contribute to 73.26% of the total tin exports from Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province. However, despite the overall increase in exports, there has been a contraction in export growth to the top five destination countries when comparing the cumulative data from January to March 2024 with the same period last year (year-on-year). South Korea experienced a contraction of 40.01%, while Singapore and India saw contractions of 32.00% and 50.64%, respectively.
