Kementerian Perindustrian emphasizes the importance for businesses in the industrial sector to adhere to Indonesian National Standards (SNI). This statement came after the destruction of non-compliant steel reinforcement products worth IDR 257 billion, conducted by Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan in Serang, Banten, on Friday (26/4). According to Febri Hendri Antoni Arif, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry, the 2014 Industrial Law stipulates that manufactured products not meeting SNI standards must not be circulated and should be destroyed. He suggested finding facilities to reproduce the non-compliant steel to meet national quality standards.
Minister Zulkifli Hasan's destruction of non-compliant steel reinforcement products, totaling 27,078 tons or IDR 257.2 billion, produced by PT Hwa Hok Steel in Cikande, Serang, Banten, was deemed necessary. He stated that the non-compliant products posed significant risks to consumers if used in construction. The discovery of non-compliant products stemmed from special surveillance by the Directorate General of Consumer Protection and Trade Compliance (PKTN) on March 6. Upon inspection, it was found that the products manufactured by Hwa Hok Steel did not meet national standards.
