SML: Indonesia Emerges as an Investor Destination for Startup Sector

Irawan Harahap, CEO of Digital Tech Ecosystem & Development at Sinar Mas Land, highlights Indonesia's growing appeal among investors seeking opportunities in the startup sector. He attributes this attractiveness to the country's rapid economic growth, widespread internet penetration, and dynamic startup ecosystem. According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information, Indonesia led Southeast Asia in startup investments in 2021, accounting for 42% of the total investment value. Sinar Mas Land is committed to fostering digitalization, particularly in the startup sector, to achieve a GDP of around USD 150 billion with a growth rate of 10% by 2025. This commitment aligns with the increasing digital opportunity trends in Indonesia. Based on data from McKinsey & Company, Indonesia's digital technology sector is predicted to contribute USD 35 billion to the workforce by 2025, potentially creating 3.7 million job opportunities.

To support the advancement of the digital startup ecosystem, Digital Hub Next Action (DNA) initiated the TechConnectSeries program titled "VC Startup Connect." This program, in collaboration with Xendit, a leading digital payment infrastructure provider in Southeast Asia, facilitates interactions between startups, angel investors, and venture capitalists. Through events like speed dating sessions, consultation sessions, and networking nights, the program aims to broaden networks, foster collaborations, and provide funding opportunities. Moses Lo, Co-Founder & CEO of Xendit, emphasizes their dedication to driving growth in Indonesia's digital startup ecosystem through collaboration. The DNA VC Startup Connect event serves as an exclusive speed dating platform connecting startups with prominent national and international investors to spur collaboration and growth in Indonesia's rapidly evolving startup ecosystem. Since 2016, Sinar Mas Land has been digitally transformed to provide the best services and products to the community. One of these initiatives includes the development of Digital Hub, a 26-hectare area in BSD City dedicated to communities, educational institutions, startups, and multinational companies in the digital and creative technology fields. The positive response from various stakeholders reflects Digital Hub's success, hosting over 38 leading companies, including Traveloka, Unilever, NTT, Grab, and Apple. With direct access to major toll roads and various public transportation options such as free shuttle buses and commuter trains, Digital Hub ensures seamless mobility for its stakeholders, further enhancing its appeal as a vibrant hub for innovation and collaboration.
