In efforts to establish Labuan Bajo as a sustainable super-priority tourism destination, Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, emphasized the importance of transforming Labuan Bajo into a "green destination" during his visit on Thursday, April 25, 2024. He highlighted the significance of preserving nature in tourism development in Labuan Bajo, echoing sentiments expressed by the local regent regarding the importance of reforesting dense forests. During his visit, Minister Sandiaga proposed the idea of integrating nature conservation into tourism development, particularly evident during a tree-planting event at Parapuar Labuan Bajo in celebration of the 52nd anniversary of Real Estate Indonesia (REI). The development concept for Parapuar Labuan Bajo aims to harmonize with nature, with 400 hectares of land available for potential investment, emphasizing a ratio of one tree planted for every ten sacrificed, promoting green tourism initiatives in Parapuar. Minister Sandiaga expressed support for the REI's initiative of planting one million trees, aligning with environmental preservation goals.
The REI Chairman's commitment to environmental issues and the collective effort to plant trees as part of the one million tree initiative were highlighted, aiming to create opportunities for Labuan Bajo as a super-priority destination capable of attracting investments and stimulating the local economy, thus positively impacting the welfare of Manggarai Barat. The REI's 52nd anniversary activities in Labuan Bajo are expected to catalyze investment and local economic growth, as noted by Minister Sandiaga, emphasizing the potential for increased investment and local economic development. REI's Chairman, Joko Suranto, reiterated that the one million tree program is a tangible step in addressing climate change, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing oxygen production. Bupati (Regent) of Manggarai Barat, Edistasius Endi, further emphasized the significance of tree planting, particularly merbau and coconut trees, as a tangible manifestation of collective commitment towards achieving a green and sustainable economy. The collective efforts underscore a concerted push towards sustainable tourism development in Labuan Bajo, aligning with broader environmental conservation objectives.
