Sorong Regency Allocates IDR 1.7 Billion to Empower OAP SMEs

The Sorong Regency Government in Southwest Papua allocates IDR 1.7 billion from the Special Autonomy Fund (Otsus) to empower micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) owned by indigenous Papuans (OAP) in the region. This allocation reflects the government's commitment to enhancing the competitiveness of OAPs and improving their family economies. The funds will benefit 850 OAP businesses, with each receiving IDR 2 million, totaling IDR 1.7 billion. The distribution process involves proposal submission, verification by relevant departments, and collaboration with Bank Papua for account opening to ensure direct fund disbursement to recipients.

Eligibility for assistance is limited to OAPs residing and holding IDs from Sorong Regency who have not previously received aid. While there are approximately 6,000 MSMEs in Sorong Regency, this assistance is specifically earmarked for OAPs due to its source from the Otsus funds. Recipients are expected to compete with non-Papuan entrepreneurs in Sorong Regency, with the government monitoring fund utilization to ensure its effectiveness in boosting OAP businesses. Disbursement to recipients' accounts is anticipated to occur in July or August 2024, aiming to empower OAPs economically.
