Indonesian Coffee Captivates Visitors at Exhibition in Chicago USA

The Specialty Coffee Expo (SCE) at McCormick Place, Chicago, from April 12th to 14th, 2024, showcased the diversity and quality of Indonesian coffee to international audiences. Twelve Indonesian specialty coffee industry representatives participated, highlighting their products to potential partners from various countries. The Indonesian pavilion's inauguration featured speeches from notable figures such as the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Chicago, Listyowati, and Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Filianingsih Tjahjono. Indonesia's presence at SCE symbolizes a collaborative effort between the government, Bank Indonesia, the banking sector, and industry players, aiming to penetrate the competitive US market and leverage the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the US. This initiative received support from various sectors, demonstrating a commitment to Indonesian MSMEs. Trade Attaché in Washington DC, Ranitya Kusumadewi, stressed the importance of strengthening Indonesia's branding as a producer of high-quality specialty coffee beans, given the rapid global development of the coffee industry. The curation process for Indonesia's participation in SCE considered aspects such as coffee quality, traceability, sustainability, and certifications.


The Indonesian pavilion featured coffee from diverse regions including West Java, Central Java, Gayo, Kintamani, Temanggung, Toraja, Maindailing, and Lampung, presented by renowned participants like Catur Coffee, Gravfarm, Ulubelu Coffee, and others. Throughout the exhibition, participants engaged with potential partners, discussing opportunities for cooperation and transactions. Indonesia's representation extended beyond product showcasing, with representatives competing in prestigious competitions like the World Brewers Cup and the World Cup Tasters Championship. Positive reception from visitors, including prominent roasteries like Intelligentsia and Blue Bottle Coffee, highlighted growing interest and appreciation for Indonesian specialty coffee. The SCE exhibition annually attracts around 14,000 visitors from various sectors in the coffee industry, facilitating networking opportunities among key players. Indonesia's active participation underscores its commitment to promoting its coffee industry globally, fostering partnerships, and driving economic growth.
