The Government Tightens Regulations on Imported Electronic Products

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), has tightened regulations on the importation of electronic products. This policy is outlined in Ministerial Regulation No. 6 of 2024 concerning Procedures for the Issuance of Technical Considerations for the Import of Electronic Products. Under this regulation, 78 imported electronic items are subject to restrictions, including centrifugal pumps, submersible water pumps, table fans, floor fans, refrigerators, washing machines, and rice cookers. However, businesses can still import these electronic products provided they obtain Import Approvals (PI) from the relevant ministry responsible for trade affairs and/or submit a surveyor's report.

To obtain Import Approval as stipulated in Article 2, paragraph (2), businesses must obtain Technical Considerations issued by the Minister, as stated in Chapter 2, Article 3 of the regulation.Furthermore, to apply for the issuance of technical considerations, businesses must fulfill Business Licensing commitments in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations. Additionally, they must be registered in SIINas, provide industrial data, submit data on the industrial development phase, and submit periodic business activity reports via SIINas on February 1st and August 1st of each year. Moreover, according to Article 5 of the regulation, requests for the issuance of Technical Considerations must be submitted electronically to the Director General through SINSW, which is then forwarded to SIINas. Businesses seeking the issuance of Technical Considerations must provide production plans containing information on tariff codes, item descriptions, item names, quantities, or volumes in standardized units, as stated in Article 6.
