Coal Becomes Aceh's Main Export

In February 2024, the mining commodity coal remained a primary export from Aceh, with India being the main destination, amounting to USD 30.4 million or IDR 480 billion. This information was disclosed by the Head of the Aceh Provincial BPS, Ahmadriswan Nasution, during a press release at the BPS Aceh Office on Monday, April 1, 2024. Coffee emerged as the second-largest export from Aceh, shipped to the United States, valued at USD 10.4 million or IDR 164 billion. Additionally, the oil and gas sector contributed with condensate exports to Thailand, amounting to USD 8.7 million or IDR 137 billion. Ahmadriswan emphasized that the majority of Aceh's exports in February 2024, totaling USD 30,483,666, were directed to India, predominantly consisting of coal. However, only USD 37 million or IDR 584 billion worth of exports were facilitated through Aceh's ports, with the remainder routed through other ports outside Aceh. Meanwhile, Aceh's import value in February 2024 amounted to USD 34 million, marking a significant increase of 358.52% compared to January 2024. The principal imports originated from Saudi Arabia, including liquefied petroleum gas, followed by commodities such as rice and asphalt from Thailand. With exports surpassing imports, Aceh Province recorded a trade surplus in February 2024, amounting to USD 23 million or IDR 363 billion.

Simultaneously, the BPS Aceh released the inflation data for March 2024. Based on BPS Aceh's monitoring in five districts and cities, namely Aceh Tengah, Meulaboh, Aceh Tamiang, Banda Aceh, and Lhokseumawe, a month-to-month inflation of 0.48% was recorded for March 2024. Certain commodities notably contributed to month-to-month inflation, including red chili, chicken eggs, chicken meat, shallots, potatoes, jewelry gold, machine-rolled clove cigarettes, squid, fresh shrimp, and bird's eye chili. Conversely, commodities such as tomatoes, bullet tuna, water spinach, rice, bonito tuna, Indian mackerel, women's Muslim clothing, cassava leaves, cement, and men's long-sleeved cotton shirts contributed to month-to-month deflation.
