The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kanwil Kemenkumham) and the NTT Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf NTT) synergize to facilitate the registration of 11 trademarks for creative economy players in West Sumba.

The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kanwil Kemenkumham) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) facilitated the trademark registration of 11 creative economy players under the supervision of the West Sumba Regency Tourism, Creative Economy, and Cultural Office. The entire registration costs for Personal Intellectual Property were covered by the Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Office in NTT. Trademark registration took place during the Intellectual Property Promotion and Dissemination event at the West Sumba Regent's Residence on Tuesday (March 26, 2024). Participants included local government officials, intellectual property activists, business actors, and community figures in West Sumba. The Acting Head of the NTT Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Office, Johny Rohi, commended the Kanwil Kemenkumham NTT for collaborating with local governments to facilitate intellectual property registration. This synergy supports SMEs and creative economic ventures in the region. Acknowledging the significant creative economic potential in NTT, especially in culinary, crafts, and fashion, Johny highlighted the need for improved intellectual property protection. This initiative aims to enhance the competitiveness of NTT's flagship products regionally, nationally, and globally.

To address this issue, NTT Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Office have established a Cooperation Agreement with Kanwil Kemenkumham NTT since 2022, facilitating intellectual property registration. This effort aligns with Provincial Regulation No. 4 of 2023 concerning the Protection, Utilization, and Development of Creative Economy and Traditional Cultural Expressions. Johny revealed that approximately 125 creative economy players have been facilitated with intellectual property registration since 2022, with a target of assisting 100 trademarks in 2024. This support extends to regions like West Sumba, Alor, and Belu. Encouraging SMEs to recognize the importance of intellectual property registration, particularly trademarks and copyrights, Johny emphasized the legal rights and protection it offers against duplication and infringement.. Johny urged local governments, including West Sumba, to prioritize attention to intellectual property protection and allocate resources accordingly to empower creative economy stakeholders and enhance community welfare.
