The Creative Economy Could be the Support for Indonesia Emas 2045

Indonesia's Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, asserts that the creative economy could serve as a cornerstone for Indonesia's economic vision of becoming "Indonesia Emas" by 2045. Recognizing the creative economy as the world's third-largest contributor to the GDP, Sandiaga emphasizes its potential to boost national revenue. To realize the vision, he advocates strengthening the quality of human resources in the creative economy sector, aiming to enhance its role in achieving a higher income for the country. Sandiaga stresses the need to fortify human resources in the creative economy sector, envisioning a target per capita income ranging from USD 25,000 to USD 30,000. He believes that this can be accomplished through a strategy focused on human resource development, encompassing not only green and blue economies but also the digital and creative economies.

In the year 2024, the minister targets a significant contribution from the creative economy sector, projecting profits exceeding IDR 1,300 trillion, constituting up to 8% of the national GDP. This forecast includes the creation of an ecosystem generating 25 million jobs, an export target of USD 28 billion, and a GDP percentage ranging from 7.8% to 8%. Sandiaga highlights that, as of October 2023, the creative economy has already contributed IDR 1,300 trillion to Indonesia's GDP. Noteworthy sub-sectors within the creative economy include culinary, crafts, and fashion, collectively contributing nearly 75% to the GDP. Specifically, the culinary sector contributes 43%, fashion 17%, and crafts 15%, with the remaining 25% attributed to 14 other sub-sectors exhibiting above-average growth. Sandiaga's data underscores Indonesia's status as the world's third-largest contributor to the creative economy, positioning it to play a pivotal role in the nation's economic future.
