The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) underscores the continued prominence of the non-oil and gas processing industry as a key contributor to Indonesia's national export performance. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita affirms the significance of the manufacturing sector, which consistently propels national economic growth through the export of various manufactured products. The Minister expresses a commitment to increasing the export value of manufacturing products, focusing on diversification to enhance competitiveness and add significant value. Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita highlights the pivotal role of manufacturing exports in strengthening the trade balance and consequently driving national economic growth. To boost exports further, President Joko Widodo has established the Export Enhancement Task Force outlined in Presidential Decree Number 24 of 2023. The task force, led by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, aims to strategically develop export resources, enhance productivity and competitiveness, and formulate strategies to elevate the role of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the national export ecosystem.
Emphasizing the commitment to industrial downstreaming, Kemenperin aims to increase the value of natural resources in Indonesia, creating high-value products for both domestic and export markets. This initiative aligns with the government's ban on the export of raw materials, reflecting a dedication to realizing Indonesia as a developed nation. Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita notes that industrial downstreaming is a key element in achieving Indonesia's vision for 2045 as a prosperous nation. In 2023, the manufacturing sector's exports reached USD 186.98 billion, contributing 72.24% to the total national export value of USD 258.82 billion. Despite global uncertainties, the national industry remains assertive in expanding its export market, demonstrating resilience in challenging global conditions.
