The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) reports a substantial surge in the export volume of tuna-bonito-mackerel (TCT) commodities to China in 2023, marking an impressive 518.4% increase. Budi Sulistiyo, the Director General for Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fisheries Products (PDSPKP) at KKP, revealed that the export of Indonesian TCT to China witnessed a remarkable rise in both volume and value, reaching 3,391 tons and USD 9.51 million, respectively. The exported TCT products comprised 80.47% whole frozen form, followed by 18.36% frozen boneless fillet, and 1.17% fresh-chilled form.
Looking ahead to 2024, KKP initiates the Tuna Year 2024 program with the aim of expanding market share both internationally and domestically. Budi expresses hope that this dedicated year for tuna will broaden the market reach, fostering growth in both international and domestic markets. The program not only seeks to boost the prosperity of communities but also anticipates an increase in tuna consumption, aligning with the upward trend in tuna production in Indonesia.
The Tuna Year 2024 program represents KKP's commitment to enhancing the competitiveness of the tuna commodity. The strategic initiatives planned for its success include thematic tuna bazaars in collaboration with relevant ministries and regional governments from March to May 2024. This holistic approach aims to strengthen the market dynamics for Indonesian tuna, fostering both economic and societal benefits.
