The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) asserts that Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 19 of 2024 on Accelerating the Development of the National Game Industry can strengthen the national gaming industry's ecosystem. Nia Niscaya, Senior Expert in Tourism and Creative Economy at Kemenparekraf, highlighted the significance of reinforcing the potential of the gaming industry in Indonesia to establish a more dominant presence domestically and globally. Referring to 2023 statistics, she revealed that the Indonesian gaming market is projected to have an economic value of USD 1.117 billion. In 2023, Indonesia's gaming market is expected to reach around USD 1.117 billion, with a substantial portion attributed to the online sector, valued at approximately USD 343 million. This growth is influenced by the affordability of smartphones and widespread internet access. Nia also noted that Indonesian gamers dominate the Southeast Asian region, constituting 43% in 2022, with players from Yogyakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Tangerang making a mark globally.
Meanwhile, Robinson H Sinaga, Director of Regulation at Kemenparekraf, outlined the eight key provisions in the signed Perpres dated February 12, 2024. These include research development, educational advancement, funding facilitation, infrastructure provision, marketing system enhancement, intellectual property incentive, and protection of creative results. Robinson added that coordination with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) is underway to prepare derivative regulations in response to Perpres Number 19 of 2024. The Acceleration Team for the National Game Industry Development is tasked with coordinating and synchronizing actions, directing policies, strategizing comprehensive public communication implementation, monitoring and evaluating progress, and recommending changes to the National Game Industry Development Acceleration Program.
