The Ministry of Industry Endeavors to Develop the National Halal Industry

The Ministry of Industry continues its efforts to develop the halal industry in Indonesia. The domestic market indicates that Indonesian Muslims spent USD 184 billion in 2020, projected to increase by 14.96% in 2025 to USD 281.6 billion, making Indonesia the world's largest halal market with an 11.34% share of global halal expenditure. During the Acceleration Meeting for Halal Certification Facilitation in Bali, the Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Putu Juli Ardika, emphasized the importance of halal certification for various products, including food and beverages. He stated that the Ministry of Industry, as part of the government, is responsible for empowering the industrial sector, including facilitating halal certification to support the readiness of industries for Sharia economics. According to the Official Ministry of Industry website, halal certification for all food, beverages, slaughtered products, and slaughtering services will be implemented nationwide, following the phased halal obligations outlined in Government Regulation No. 39 of 2021.

Over the past three years, the Ministry's Halal Industry Empowerment Center (PPIH) has facilitated halal certification for 3,095 small industries under regular and self-declaration schemes. In 2024, the PPIH plans to facilitate halal certification for 1,250 small industries, including certification applications and halal supervisor training for eligible small industries. The halal supervisor training aims to produce competent human resources to oversee the implementation of the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) in these industrial companies, ensuring that halal certification is not merely a final goal but part of a continuous SJPH implementation process even after obtaining halal certification. Indonesia ranks third in halal economic development, according to the recently launched State of the Global Islamic Report, climbing one rank compared to the previous year's report.
