Intesa Sanpaolo strengthens its commitment to tourism, having disbursed over 8 billion euros in the last three years, aiming with Federalberghi to revitalize and develop the accommodation facilities. The strategic relevance of tourism in the country's economy is evident: tourism, among the main drivers of the Italian post-Covid recovery, continued to grow in 2023, remaining central to the economy. Intesa Sanpaolo's estimates for the entire 2023 show a turnover surpassing 2019 levels by 38.8% in the accommodation services sector and by 23.8% in catering. The growth of inbound tourism represents one of the factors behind these brilliant results, especially from August to November, when there was a 7.6% increase in non-resident arrivals compared to 2019.
Italy confirms its position among the Top 10 global destinations for tourist arrivals, also due to the return of long-haul tourists, dominating the "must-see" ranking for 2023 (survey conducted by the Globus group). In light of these dynamics, the degree of internationalization of arrivals rose to 52.2% in the first eleven months of 2023, surpassing the 50.5% of 2019, a year distinguished by a record influx of non-resident tourists. Forecasts for 2024 remain positive for the sector, which is expected to see a consolidation of the excellent turnover results achieved in the last two years, albeit within a context of modest global economic growth, mainly due to advanced economies.
