Pelindo Targets to Develop Integrated Kuala Tanjung Industrial Zone Alongside Kuala Tanjung Port in 2024

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero)/Pelindo is currently focusing on developing the Kuala Tanjung Industrial Area (KIKT), located in Batubara Regency, North Sumatra. Managed by Pelindo's subsidiary, PT Pelindo Solusi Logistik (SPSL), through its subsidiary PT Prima Pengembangan Kawasan (PPK), KIKT is strategically positioned just one kilometer from Kuala Tanjung Port, another Pelindo-managed entity under PT Pelindo Multi Terminal (SPMT). By the end of 2023, PT PPK had cleared a 57-hectare land parcel for development. Throughout 2024, the focus will be on the initial phase, involving land clearing, preparation, and securing necessary certifications and permits. Subsequent phases include gate and road construction, followed by basic infrastructure development in collaboration with various state-owned and regional enterprises. To address power needs, PT PPK plans to engage PT PLN (Persero), while gas supply will be facilitated by PT Pertagas Niaga, a Pertamina subsidiary. Telecommunication infrastructure will involve multiple providers, and water supply will be managed by PDAM Tirta Tanjung, a regional enterprise owned by Batubara Regency.

Simultaneously, alongside infrastructure development, PT PPK is actively promoting KIKT through investment forums, including the North Sumatera Invest Promotion Forum 2023 in Jakarta. PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) President Director, Arif Suhartono, emphasizes Pelindo's 2024 focus on integrated industrial port development to stimulate trade amid global and domestic economic challenges. By integrating ports with industrial zones, Pelindo aims to boost trade volume, thus enhancing regional economic growth. Pelindo is currently developing three integrated industrial port zones: Java Integrated Industrial and Ports Estate (JIIPE) in Gresik, East Java; Terminal Kijing in Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan; and Kuala Tanjung in Batubara Regency, North Sumatra. These developments aim to improve logistic efficiency and bolster regional economies. JIIPE, spanning 1,761 hectares, houses tenants linked to PT Freeport Indonesia, while Kijing, with 124 hectares earmarked for industrial use, serves as a key hub for palm oil and bauxite in West Kalimantan. Kuala Tanjung, already a base for palm oil and metal industries, benefits from its integrated port-industrial zone, connected to the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone via toll roads and railways.
