Indonesia Ranks Second as the World's Largest Broom Exporter, Promising Market Share

Indonesia has secured the second position as the world's largest exporter of brooms after China. According to Volza data as of December 23, 2023, Indonesia has exported brooms overseas 4,700 times, involving 307 exporters and 459 buyers. In international trade, broom and brush products made from branches or plant materials are classified under HS code 960310. From January to November 2023, Indonesia's broom exports reached USD 27.39 million, marking an 18.33% increase from the same period in 2022. Over the past five years (2018–2022), the export trend for this product has grown at an annual rate of 14.54%. Brooms from Indonesia come in various types, including coconut fiber brooms, stick brooms, and straw brooms, serving purposes such as sweeping floors, walls, and other surfaces. The diversity and quality of Indonesian-made brooms contribute to their global appeal. The Directorate General of National Export Development (DJPEN) revealed that the top ten export destinations for Indonesian brooms include South Korea, Iran, Taiwan, Pakistan, India, China, Malaysia, Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

DJPEN highlighted the advantages of Indonesian brooms on Instagram, emphasizing their high-quality materials, durability, and eco-friendliness. Domestic broom exporters continue to innovate and adapt to the needs of global consumers. The affordability of Indonesian brooms is attributed to the abundant raw materials and skilled labor force. Referring to The Observatory of Economic Complexity, brooms rank 313th among the most traded products globally out of 1,217 products in 2021. The worldwide trade value reached USD 12.3 billion, indicating a 17.5% growth compared to the 2020 figure of USD 10.4 billion. Brooms represent 0.058% of the total world trade, reflecting the global significance of this seemingly simple product. The promising outlook for Indonesian broom exports underscores the country's competitiveness and sustainability in the international broom market.
