Indonesian Vice Minister of Agriculture Optimistic About Becoming the Largest Feed Producer

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Harvick Hasnul Qolbi, inaugurated the export of livestock feed supplements and animal feed by PT Nutricell Pacific to Japan and Vietnam in Serpong, South Tangerang Regency on January 29. The dispatched 14 tons of livestock feed supplements, valued at USD 13,320, were sent to Japan, while 1,200 boxes of animal feed, equivalent to USD 35,000, were exported to Vietnam. Harvick highlighted this achievement as a new breakthrough, especially considering the challenging Japanese market. He emphasized that Indonesia, endowed with abundant natural resources and a skilled workforce, has the potential to become a major producer. Leveraging these resources, Indonesia could export a variety of products globally, ensuring that farmers and livestock breeders at the upstream level enjoy the fruits of their labor. The Minister expressed the country's potential to be a significant player in livestock feed production. He urged business players to actively seek international market opportunities, also in agriculture and plantations, indicating a broader strategy for the future.

The Ministry of Agriculture has set a target to increase the export of agricultural commodities. As per BPS data, the 2023 agricultural export-import balance showed a positive figure, with a surplus of USD 3.307.2 billion. Additionally, the livestock commodity export performance from January to December 2023 recorded USD 1.37 billion, equivalent to IDR 21.3 trillion, exhibiting a 2.2% growth in export value and a 5.58% growth in export volume compared to the same period in 2022. Director General of Livestock and Animal Health, Nasrulllah, explained that this export release was a result of the Indonesian Delegation's visit to Japan in early December 2023. PT Nutricell was one of the companies participating in the delegation and successfully signed a deal with Japan Nutrition Corporation, Inc. for the sale of livestock feed supplements worth USD 3 million, to be delivered in several phases. While food security has been a significant focus, Nasrullah emphasized the substantial contribution of the non-food sector, constituting 35% of the total livestock export achievement in 2023. He encouraged further exploration of the non-food sector to expand target markets and increase export volume. The USD 3 million export contract for Nutrifat Ca-84 and USD 15,000 for Pet Food reflects Nutricell's commitment to economic growth and cultural exchange between Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia. This strategic export initiative marks a significant step for Indonesia in the global livestock feed market, showcasing its potential and capacity for international competitiveness.
